2007 Carneros, CA (S) $40 — Rating 90

Ceja Vineyards produces a beautiful bright, crisp, fruity, medium bodied Pinot Noir.  Perfect for a summer evening. The floral and red plum nose is a prelude to a very well balanced wine with soft tannins and textured flavors of dried berry, spice and herbs.

2008 Russian River, CA  (s) $35 – $75 — Rating 93

The 2008 offering is even better than the wonderful 2007 . This Pinot Noir is approachable from the time the cork pops and is an excellent food pairing wine. Don Blackburn said about Emeritus, “It won’t be a wine that will try to knock your socks off, but a wine instead, that will attempt to seduce you, and make you glad that it did.”   Let this beauty seduce you. Emeritus Pinot is normally only found in restaurants ($70-$75) but can be found at Internet retailers for $35-$40.

2007 Napa Valley, CA (S) $70 — Rating 97

Corison Cabernet  is the elegant restrained style of Napa Cabernet that I fell in love with years ago. Cathy Corison has created a very well balanced with soft tannins that envelope your tongue without biting. At 13.8 alcohol, the dark rich fruit is alive and powerful without being fruity. An expensive wine at $70, but luxury has its price.

The fact that we even spend the time to write and produce Bacchus and Beery is clear testament to that observation. But because most of the wine we buy is sold by a retailer or sommelier based on price, availability and convenience; that “winery connection” we crave can be hard to make. Continue reading »

2008 Sonoma Coast, CA $35 — Rating 90

The other night I was in the mood for a great Pinot and friend suggested Benovia Sonoma Coast. This is a very well made Pinot Noir that has a juicy mouthfeel and is very well balanced. Just a damn nice Pinot.
