wine blog, wine blogs, best wine blogDamn it is sweltering outside. What is the perfect wine to cool off from a blistering day? For me no wine screams summer more than a beautiful dry rosé. No, not talking sweet white Zinfandel or the Mateus of my youth, but wonderfully refreshing dry rosé wines. While a nice chilled rosé is the perfect patio pounder sipper, they can also pair beautifully with summer fare, ranging from fruit salad topped with poppy seed dressing to grilled salmon or chicken.

So bring on the heat, start the patio party, fire up the grill and allow me to share with you some of the best American rosés I have found for this summer so far.  BTW…Patio party season has just begun, so check back with Bacchus and Beery Wine Blog for another rosé update in a month or so. 2008 Gary Farrell Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, Russian River Selection, CA, $42 (S) – Rating 90

A big jammy Pinot with a nose of cherry and spice. A rich  mouth-feel full of ripe cherry, strawberry, raspberry and baking spice with notes of saddle leather on the finish. Rather well balanced for such a big wine. Definitely give this big boy time to breathe. Buy this Wine

2010 Freeman Vineyard & Winery Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, CA, $42 (S) – Rating 92

A very focused and delicious Pinot that opens with a nose of cherry pie. Give this wine a little time and it will reward with well integrated flavors of  strawberry jam, plum, bing cherry and strawberry with a long spicy finish.  Jammy on the front yet crisp acidity on the finish. Interesting complexity. Buy This Wine

2011 Starmont  Rosé Wine, CA, $20 (S) – Rating 3.85

This varietal blend opens with a light nose of strawberry and spice. The palate offers up flavors of ripe watermelon, ripe strawberry, rhubarb, red cherry and raspberry balanced with a touch of zippy acidity. It paired very well with our Parmesan talapia and spinach/strawberry salad. Buy This Wine
