2008 Concannon Conservancy Cabernet Sauvignon, Livermore Valley, CA, $15 (S) – Rating 88

A super-value Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium to full-bodied sporting flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, plum and spice with whiffs of chocolate and vanilla. Big fruit with big yet well-integrated tannins make for a nice wine at the price.

2009 Lander-Jenkins Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Spirit Hawk, CA, $15 (S) – Rating 88

One heck of a good value for an every day approachable Cabernet sipper. Very fruit forward, flavors of juicy blackberry and ripe plum with a touch of spice and very soft tannins. Pop it with a steak and your friends will be happy.

2010 Hagafen Chardonnay, Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, CA, $24 (S) – Rating 90

A lovely rich Chardonnay with a nose of lemon, citrus, baked pineapple and melted butter. The soft round mouth-feel offers up flavors of ripe pineapple, pear, citrus creme, red apple and oaky vanilla. A full-bodied CA Chardonnay style without getting flabby.

2006 Zuccardi Tempranillo, Mendoza, Argentina, $22 (S) – Rating 89

A big Tempranillo from Argentina. Rich flavors of blackberries, black fruit, plums, leaf tobacco and spice. Plenty of tannin structure creates complex flavors. Best when decanted for 30-60 minutes.
