Upon opening the bottle the aromas start with a nostalgic creamy cinnamon roll but as it opens, notes of tropical and pineapple come through. A medium-bodied Chardonnay, this offering from Malibu Rocky Oaks offers up flavors of red apple, tropicals, ripe pineapple, oaky vanilla, creme brulee and soft spice. A touch of acidity adds depth.

2008 Kunde Family Estates Red Dirt Red, A Red Wine, Sonoma Valley, CA, $28 (S) – Rating 3.9

This wine from Kunde Estate harkens back to a rustic old world style rarely seen from Sonoma. The medium-bodied blend of Barbera, Syrah, and Zinfandel with a touch of Sangiovese offers up earthy flavors of  blackberry, blue fruit, dark spice with smokey oak and supple tannins. Great with grilled or BBQ meats or a meaty pizza.

2009 McNab Ridge Chardonnay, Mendocino, CA, $16 (S) – Rating 88

McNab Ridge has done a very nice job with this well-balanced oaked Chardonnay. The nose offers up notes of apple, citrus and honeycomb. Round flavors of apple, pear, ripe pineapple, oaky vanilla with a hint of citrus creme will caress your palate.

This Pinot from Stephen’s Cellar  opens with a nose of blue fruit, tobacco leaf, and cinnamon. The wine is very well-balanced offering up rich flavors of cherry, dark berry, blueberry, oaky vanilla and cinnamon with a touch of rustic earthiness.
