2009 The Crusher Petite Sirah, Clarksburg, CA, $13 (S) – Rating 90

An extremely approachable Petite Sirah, The Crusher, has soft tannins and rich flavors of dark cherry, blackberry and blueberry with a hint of oaky spice. A very rich and luscious mouth-feel. A wonderful BBQ wine.

2007 Cinnabar Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mountains, CA, $25 (S) – Rating 91

A yummy lean medium-bodied Chardonnay from Cinnabar Winery. An excellent blend of acidity and fruit for a stand-alone sipper or a foodie wine. Delicious combinations of red apple, citrus and pear with a hint of vanilla Crème brûlée on the finish. Barrel and partial malolactic fermentations add to the complexity without overpowering.

2010 J Vineyards & Winery Pinot Gris, Healdsburg, CA, $16 (S) – Rating 90

This Pinot Gris from J Vineyards is really an outstanding wine. Often Pinot Gris is overly acidic and thin, but this one is a winner even from a man’s perspective. Nice flavors of apricot, honey and citrus with a touch of mineral acidity layer beautifully into a very easy drinking wine. We served J Pinot Gris with artichoke bruschetta topping on toast points… Delicious!

2005 Ramazzotti Regale Reserve, Alexander Valley, CA, $100 (S) – Rating 91

Ramazzotti Regale Reserve is a Bordeaux-style Cabernet / Merlot based blend that really delivers. A rather complex wine with rich Cabernet flavors and fully integrated tannins. There’s just enough Cabernet Franc (14.5%) to add a kick of spice and pepper, which we found intriguing.

2008 Sequana Pinot Noir Sundawg Ridge Vineyard, Green Valley of Russian River Valley, CA, $50 (S) – Rating 90

Another very good wine from the Sequana line of single vineyard Pinot Noirs. Full bodied flavors of dark cherry, cola, light spice, black pepper and plum are married with nice tannins and a hint of oak.
