2008 Deep Sea Pinot Noir, Central Coast, CA (S) $28 – Rating 4.0

Give this Deep Sea Pinot Noir a little time to open up and you will be rewarded with well integrated tannins and a wine full of flavors like dark cherry, blackberry, currents with a touch of oaky vanilla. A bit lighter and fruit forward than many California Pinots, makes this wine a great summer Pinot Noir choice.

2010 McPherson Cellars Viognier, Texas, $15 – Rating 4.1

McPherson Cellars Viognier is a stellar example of why Viognier is the perfect dry white wine grape for Texas. Think warm Texas evening under the oaks with a chilled wine stem  brimming with flavors of citrus, honeysuckle and orange blossom with a touch of oak with a light Hill Country peach finish. This Viognier pairs wonderfully with spicy Thai food.

2005 Cru Bourgeois Chateau Barreyres, Haut-Medoc, France, $20 (S) – Rating 4.0

A dense and well balanced, smooth red Bordeaux wine that is also food friendly. Flavors of black cherry, black berries and currants are highlighted by smooth tannins and an earthy richness. We enjoyed the wine with a meal of grilled veggies and tomatoes topped with a grilled lamb chop. Buy this wine at  Wine Chateau

2009 Red Car Wine CO – BoxCar Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast, CA (S) $23 – Rating 4.0

BoxCar Chardonnay by Red Car Wine Company is a very well-made example of a mid-weight CA Chardonnay. The use of only 10% new oak moderates the oak flavors and allows the creaminess to rise to the top. Nice tropical and apple flavors with a touch of straw and minerality. The well integrated flavors are big enough to stand on its own but still pair well with food. Think grilled chicken rubbed with lemon pepper.
