2008 Tudal Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Vineyard, Napa Valley, CA $45 (S) – Rating 92

This beautiful Estate Cabernet by Tudal tastes more like a $75 bottle of wine. 35 year-old vines produce a superbly balanced, rich and complex Cabernet. Supple tannins with flavors of blackberry, red fruit, black fruit, smoke, cedar, a hint of cocoa and a spark of acidity come together to put pleasure on your palate. Be patient. This wine is a youngster with enough backbone to improve over the next 3-4 years.

NV Common Dog Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, CA, $20 (S) – Rating 89

A super “go to” Cabernet from Common Dog.  Well integrated flavors of dark cherry, cassis, saddle leather, a hint of smoke with soft tannins. This lighter style Cabernet is especially good on warmer evenings when a big chewy Cab is just too much. Great BBQ wine. Tip – Give this Cab a little time to open up. It improves significantly after about 30 minutes.

2006 Cinnabar Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Cruz Mountains, CA, $45 (S) – Rating 92

This Cab from Cinnabar Winery grabed my attention from the start. Note the wine was held back longer than most, which adds to the maturity. Very well structured. Rich with solid fruit and soft tannins. Lovely flavors of black cherries, rasberries and black tea with hints of leather, smoke and oak. 100 % Cabernet Sauvignon

2008 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma, CA, $18 – Rating 3.50

Nothing really special here but not bad either. A pleasant Cabernet that will not overpower your meal at a good value price. Rich and fruity, blackerry and spice with mild tannins. At under $20 go for it… A decent “go-to” Cabernet
