2008 Ravenswood Pickberry Red Wine, Single Vineyard, Sonoma Mountain, CA, $50 (S) – Rating 92

A single-vineyard blend of 59% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, black cherries and a heap of peppery spices combine for a rich and luxurious nose. A deep and somewhat complex wine offering flavors dark berry fruit, ripe plums, blackberry and ripe blueberry with a nice earthiness component. Moderate but well integrated tannins with moderate acidity. Pleasant hints of espresso in the finish. Be patient…let this wine open for at least an hour. Buy This Wine

A red wine that will grab your attention. An intriguing nose of black cherry, dark fruit and forest floor. Medium bodied with soft tannins and balanced acidity offering flavors of dark cherry, plum and notes of ripe raspberry and dark spice. Nice hints of oaky vanilla and coffee in the finish. Give this big boy some time to breathe for optimal enjoyment. An earthy old world nose of dark fruit, spice and leather. The palate will experience a delicate earthiness featuring rich flavors of dark fruit, dark plum and cherry with interesting notes of espresso on the finish. Full bodied with moderate acidity and soft tannins makes for a nice fireplace wine. Buy This Wine

Think summer afternoon with friends around the the BBQ and pool…this is the right wine. A nose of smokey cherry with undertones of spice and leather. Clean bright flavors of cherry and plum with a bit of raspberry with hints of espresso in the long finish. Medium bodied with moderate acidity and balanced tannins make for an excellent summer red.
