2009 Domaine Pouillon Katydid, Horse Heaven Hills, WA, $$24 (S) – Rating 90

A bold GSM blend, 55% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, offering deep aromas of black fruit, leather, tobacco and dusty dark chocolate. On the palate expect flavors of dark cherry, plum, raspberry, dark cocoa powder, espresso, a hint of Mexican vanilla and baking spice. Enough zippy acidity and tannin to add structure. Buy This Wine

2007 August Ridge Vineyards Ingenious, Estate Grown, Paso Robles, CA, $44 (S) – Rating 90

Aptly named, Ingenious is a red blend of 72% Nebbiolo, 19% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon with a nose of blackberry pie and hints of cinnamon. Rich on the palate,  flavors of blackberry, blueberry, ripe plum, cola, oaky vanilla and dark baking spices combine with supple tannins to create a very enjoyable and versatile wine. Buy This Wine

2011 Carol Shelton Rendezvous Rosé, Dry Rose Wine, Cox Vineyard, North Coast, CA, $15 (S) – Rating 91

A fun and expressive rosé with a full nose of ripe strawberry and baking spice. The wine offers a deep rich ruby color. The blend of 70% Carignane and 30% field blend of mixed red grapes creates flavors of ripe strawberry, raspberry, bright cherry and watermelon with a touch toasty vanilla. I hope to rendezvous with the beautiful rosé again….all puns intended. Buy This Wine

2010 Girasole Vineyards Pinot Noir, Mendocino, CA, $16 (S) – Rating 89

An excellent value Pinot Noir made with certified organic grapes. The nose offers up aromas of strawberry, rhubarb and spice. The taste is one of spicy dark cherry pie, cinnamon, baking spice, plum, briar and minerality giving way to a nice long finish. Buy this wine

2009 Raptor Ridge Winery – Meredith Mitchell Vineyard Pinot Noir, McMinnville, Oregon, $38 (S) – Rating 89

Garnet colored, this Pinot from Raptor Ridge offers a rich nose of cherry with leather undertones. Medium-bodied with a palate of cherry, plum and light spice. Soft to the mouth with good acidity and supple tannins but a short finish. Opens over time. All in all – pretty darn nice
