2007 Cinnabar Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mountains, CA, $25 (S) – Rating 91

A yummy lean medium-bodied Chardonnay from Cinnabar Winery. An excellent blend of acidity and fruit for a stand-alone sipper or a foodie wine. Delicious combinations of red apple, citrus and pear with a hint of vanilla Crème brûlée on the finish. Barrel and partial malolactic fermentations add to the complexity without overpowering.

2009 Franciscan Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley, CA, $17 (S) – Rating 86

A lively light Sauvignon Blanc. Flavors of citrus and grapefruit with a touch of honeydew and vanilla. A bit high in acid for a patio sipper but it paired very well with a grilled chicken & vegetable pasta salad.

2010 J Vineyards & Winery Pinot Gris, Healdsburg, CA, $16 (S) – Rating 90

This Pinot Gris from J Vineyards is really an outstanding wine. Often Pinot Gris is overly acidic and thin, but this one is a winner even from a man’s perspective. Nice flavors of apricot, honey and citrus with a touch of mineral acidity layer beautifully into a very easy drinking wine. We served J Pinot Gris with artichoke bruschetta topping on toast points… Delicious!

2009 Patianna Estate Vineyards Chardonnay, Mendocino, CA, $16 (S) – Rating 90

An excellent value Chardonnay that should cost more. Patianna’s certified organic estate vineyards produce a rich wine with a ton of flavor and acidity. Sur lie ageing and a bit of oak create a round lush mouth-feel without adding a stick of butter. Crisp flavors of apple, pear, peach, tropical fruit and vanilla.
