MacPhail RoséMacPhail Rosé of Pinot Noir 2013, Sonoma Coast, CA, $22 (S) – Rating 91

Beautifully dry and balanced. A blend of all the MacPhail Pinot Noir Vineyards. The rosé juice is saignéd (bled off) after 24 to 48 hours of cold soak, fermented and then finished with malolactic fermentation, adding a touch of creaminess to balance the juicy food-pairing acidity. Gentle aromas of strawberry, raspberry, floral notes and spice. A round and rewarding mouth-feel with bold flavors of strawberry, bright cherry, raspberry and minerality. Subtle notes of cayenne and spice on the finish adds to the complexity. A manly rosé! Buy This Wine

JCB No. 69 Rosé, Dry Sparkling Wine, Burgundy, $60 (S) – Rating 90

This is one of my favorite go-to dry sparklers because it has plenty of body, acidity and depth to enjoy with food or all on it’s own. 100% Pinot Noir from Burgundy, salmon-colored with lots of bubbles. Aromas of strawberry and delicate floral notes. An encompassing mouth-feel with crisp acidity and balanced flavors of raspberry, strawberry and bright red cherry. Subtle hints of strawberry jam on finish. Buy This Wine

2012 Cakebread Cellars Vin de Porche Rosé, Anderson Valley, CA, $25 (S) – Rating 91

This “wine for the porch” may be my favorite so far of the many 2012 dry Rosés reviewed. Made from 95% Pinot Noir, 5% Syrah it is perfect for sipping on a warm summer evening or pairing with summer vegetables and lighter meats or fish. The nose is a basket of red berries, ripe strawberry and watermelon. Tangy flavors of strawberry, cherry, watermelon, a touch of cranberry and a bit of flintiness combine with balanced acidity for a great wine. Buy This Wine
