2012 Cakebread Cellars Vin de Porche Rosé, Anderson Valley, CA, $25 (S) – Rating 91

This “wine for the porch” may be my favorite so far of the many 2012 dry Rosés reviewed. Made from 95% Pinot Noir, 5% Syrah it is perfect for sipping on a warm summer evening or pairing with summer vegetables and lighter meats or fish. The nose is a basket of red berries, ripe strawberry and watermelon. Tangy flavors of strawberry, cherry, watermelon, a touch of cranberry and a bit of flintiness combine with balanced acidity for a great wine. Buy This Wine

2008 Schramsberg Vineyards Brut Rosé, North Coast CA, $42 (S) – Rating 92

Now that’s what I’m talking about! So delicious and decadent. A salmon colored blend of 65% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay sourced 39% from Napa, 36% Sonoma, 21% Mendocino and 4% Marin. Plenty of flavor yet elegant both in color and on the palate. A soft nose of strawberry and cranberry gives way to a crisp mouth-feel offering tart flavors of strawberry and cranberry with hints of spice, toasty yeast and sour cherry on the finish. Perfect food pairing acidity. Don’t wait for a celebration to enjoy this sparkler. Buy This Wine

Sourced from the estate’s oldest vines and barrel fermented/aged in French oak. The nose offers aromas of baked pears, spice and soft floral notes. A round mouth-feel with juicy acidity offering flavors of red apple, pear and citrus with hints of vanilla and caramel. A subtle flintiness adds to the complexity. Buy This Wine
