2005 Cru Bourgeois Chateau Barreyres, Haut-Medoc, France, $20 (S) – Rating 4.0

A dense and well balanced, smooth red Bordeaux wine that is also food friendly. Flavors of black cherry, black berries and currants are highlighted by smooth tannins and an earthy richness. We enjoyed the wine with a meal of grilled veggies and tomatoes topped with a grilled lamb chop. Buy this wine at  Wine Chateau

2008 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma, CA, $18 – Rating 3.50

Nothing really special here but not bad either. A pleasant Cabernet that will not overpower your meal at a good value price. Rich and fruity, blackerry and spice with mild tannins. At under $20 go for it… A decent “go-to” Cabernet

2009 Red Car Wine CO – BoxCar Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast, CA (S) $23 – Rating 4.0

BoxCar Chardonnay by Red Car Wine Company is a very well-made example of a mid-weight CA Chardonnay. The use of only 10% new oak moderates the oak flavors and allows the creaminess to rise to the top. Nice tropical and apple flavors with a touch of straw and minerality. The well integrated flavors are big enough to stand on its own but still pair well with food. Think grilled chicken rubbed with lemon pepper.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, maybe a bunch of chicks talking about their favorite Pinot Grigio and new Jimmy Choos? Well, I was wrong and had more fun than I imagined.

Thristy Girl is the creation of self-proclaimed “Head Thirsty Girl,” and NBC Television wine expert / contributor Leslie Sbrocco. This girl is high energy bawdy fun. No wine sipping here, this is a drinkin’ girl. Bacchus and Beery Wine Blog was the guest of Head Thirsty Girl of the evening, Fall Creek Vineyards co-founder/owner Susan Auler. Fall Creek was the only Texas winery pouring and their wines stood well against Thirsty Girl nationally known sponsors Ravenswood, La Crema, Cambria and others.  Continue reading »
