2005 – Howell Mountain, CA $80 — Rating 4.25

Like many Howell Mountain Cabs, this wine is big, bold and beautiful. It is very deep and rich with dark red aromas and flavors. The wine is just now hitting its stride and so the tannin structure is still a bit strong. Give it at least an hour in the decanter.

Expect to pick flavors of raspberry, blackberry cassis, dark chocolate and vanilla among others. The tannins blend well with the fruit to create a very long finish. Drink this wine slowly so you can really appreciate its layered complexity.

“Medium garnet hue. Inviting scents of black cherry, mocha and raspberry with hints of leather and menthol. Vibrant acidity and juicy flavors of raspberry and cassis bolstered by robust tannins. Layered, lingering finish of espresso, mint and wild cherry.” WN – 91
