2010 Papapietro Perry Nunes Vineyard Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, CA, $54 – Rating 93

They say wine is grown in the vineyard. It shows with this wine from Fred and Wendy Nunes’s Russian  River terroir-driven Pinot vineyard. Aromas abound of cherry, raspberry and brown baking spices. Juicy acidity and smooth tannins well suited for food pairing, offering flavors of cherry, blueberry, strawberry and spice with definite notes of cinnamon in the long finish. A wine worth pondering. A blend of four clones, Dijon 115 & 667, Vosne, Romanee and Calera – each farmed, harvested and fermented separately, then aged two years in neutral French Oak barrels. The nose is plush with aromas of dark fruit, ripe raspberry and black tea. An elegant Pinot Noir ,with both mouth watering acidity and a round mouth-feel. The palate is enticed with flavors of cherry, raspberry, red fruit and lots of spice. Notes of black tea in the finish adds complexity. But This Wine

2012 Giordano Piemonte “Maestri Italiani” Chardonnay d.o.c., Italy, $14 (S) – Rating 90

A very balanced Chardonnay. Aged Sur-Lie with just the slightest hint of oak to round out the edges but not to overwhelm. From the Piedmont Region of northwest Italy. Soft aromos waft from the glass of red apples and baking spice. On the palate, expect an elegant and plush mouth-feel with a hint of acidity. Flavors of red apple, baking spice, tropicals and a touch of pineapple on the finish. Buy this Wine

2011 Giordano Roero Arneis Vendemmia , Piedmont, Italy, $ – Rating 89

A beautiful white wine with a soft nose of citrus and some floral notes. A luxuriously soft mouth-feel with balanced acidity. Flavorful yet lean with notes of red delicious apple, citrus and spice. A touch of honeysuckle completes the finish.  Great to pair with lighter fare or as a patio sipper. Definite crowd pleaser with lower (13%) alcohol than many. Buy This Wine
