2009 Bernardus Sauvignon Blanc, Monterey County, CA, $16 – Rating 90

Just delicious! Nice tropical flavors of ripe pineapple and Meyer lemon with vanilla crème. Rich and round mouth feel with a touch of minerality and acidity. Barrel aging adds a hint of the buttery without overpowering.

2009 Common Dog Chardonnay, Sonoma County, CA, $18 (S) – Rating 90

Common Dog is a beautiful Chardonnay at a great price. Nothing dogged about this wine, it’s just doggone good. OK enough silliness. Well balanced acidity with flavors of citrus, pineapple, red apple, honey and crème. Tastes more like a $25 wine. Order directly from Common Dog Wines

2009 Patianna Sauvignon Blanc, Estate Vineyards, Mendocino, CA, $16 (S) – Rating 92

Patianna Organic Vineyards consistently serves up a beautiful, clean, crisp organic Sauvignon Blancs at an excellent price. Fermented in stainless steel, no oak and no ML fermentation creates a flavorful wine of pineapple, melon and minerality with a just hint of green apple. The acidity balanced with a creamy finish sets this wine apart.

2009 The Crusher Chardonnay, Clarksburg, CA, $13 (S) – Rating 86

The Crusher Chardonnay sports a richness found in more expensive wines. Round flavors of toasty caramel, vanilla crème brûlée and melted butter marry nicely with notes of  pear and grilled pineapple. While rich (but not a butter-bomb), this is a balanced wine with enough minerality and acidity to pair well with food.

2009 McNab Ridge Sauvignon Blanc, Mendocino, CA, $14 (S) – Rating 88

A winemaker once told me about Sauvignon Blanc, “grapefruit should be left on the breakfast table,” and I agree. McNab Ridge Sauvignon Blanc is rich and round with flavors of honeydew, pineapple and creme with no mouth puckering grapefruit. In the glass this wine opens and softens into a crisp yet round mouth-feel. Just a great summer patio sipper value.
