2008 Bogle Vineyards Phantom A Proprietary Red Wine, CA, $16 – Rating 89

A blend of predominately Petite Sirah and Old Vine Zinfandel with a touch of Old Vine Mourvedre, this is a yummy go-to nicely priced big red. Plenty of rich and jammy red fruit flavors, cherry, blackberry, raspberry, tobacco leaf, leather, dark spice and black pepper, married with supple tannins. Think cold night by the fireplace…could be the perfect wine.

2010 Predator Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi Appellation, CA, $22 (S) – Rating 88

Are you ready for some BBQ? Predator Old Vine Zin may be just the wine to compliment your grill. Big flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, plum, dark spice, tobacco and oaky vanilla complimented by a touch of tannin body and a very long finish.  None of the cherry cola flavors often found in Lodi Zin…that’s a good thing!

2009 Grey Wolf Cellars Zinfandel, Big Bad Wolf, Paso Robles, CA, $30 – Rating 90

The name says it all! If  this  big bad wine  from Grey Wolf Cellars doesn’t blow your house down, may just blow away your palate. Very rich with dark berry jammy zinfulness, this blend has 5% Petite Sirah to add a little zip and spice. Flavors of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, pepper with a touch of dark chocolate combine with round tannins for a beautiful big Zin.
