2009 Rocca Family Vineyards Grigsby Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Yountville, CA, $75 (S) – Rating 92

A rich, dense and complex wine that needs at least 30 – 45 minutes of decanting to fully open allowing nuances to shine. An assertive nose of black cherry and ripe plum  with pleasant notes of leather and cocoa. Balanced acidity with full-bodied tannins prepares the palate for flavors of black cherry, black fruit, spice, smoke and espresso with hints of earthiness adding to the complexity and structure. 2012 Cakebread Cellars Vin de Porche Rosé, Anderson Valley, CA, $25 (S) – Rating 91

This “wine for the porch” may be my favorite so far of the many 2012 dry Rosés reviewed. Made from 95% Pinot Noir, 5% Syrah it is perfect for sipping on a warm summer evening or pairing with summer vegetables and lighter meats or fish. The nose is a basket of red berries, ripe strawberry and watermelon. Tangy flavors of strawberry, cherry, watermelon, a touch of cranberry and a bit of flintiness combine with balanced acidity for a great wine. Buy This Wine
