2007 Chatom Vineyards Syrah, Calaveras County, CA, $23 (S) – Rating 91

Chatom Vineyards has created a rich Syrah without being overpowering. Flavors of dark cherry and black berries, a little smoke, oak and spice, balanced with soft tannins and a touch of earthy minerality. Consider as an alternative to a BBQ Zinfandel or just enjoy it by itself.

2009 Rarecat Sauvignon Blanc, Lionheart Series, Napa Valley, CA, $30 (S) – Rating 93

Rarecat “Lionheart Series” Sauvignon Blanc is unique in its depth and structure. Blending with 25% Chardonnay grapes and neutral oak adds depth and a fuller/rounder mouth-feel than normally found in SB. Flavors of red apple, ripe peach, citrus and tropical fruits are complimented by a floral nose.

2009 Common Dog Chardonnay, Sonoma County, CA, $18 (S) – Rating 90

Common Dog is a beautiful Chardonnay at a great price. Nothing dogged about this wine, it’s just doggone good. OK enough silliness. Well balanced acidity with flavors of citrus, pineapple, red apple, honey and crème. Tastes more like a $25 wine. Order directly from Common Dog Wines
