2008 Patland Vineyards Proprietary Red Wine, Napa Valley, CA, $48 (S) – Rating 90

A lush blend of Cabernet, Syrah and Malbec. The characteristics of each still shine through in this well-integrated wine from Patland Vineyards. Rich flavors of dark cherry, red berries, rhubarb, tobacco and oaky vanilla. The backbone of soft yet discernible tannins add complexity make this wine very approachable and versatile.

2010 Lava Cap Winery Sauvignon Blanc, El Dorado, CA, $16 (S) – Rating 89

A nose of ripe pineapple with hints of toasty oak. Richer and rounder than many Sauv. Blancs, this wine from Lava Cap Winery coats the palate with flavors of pineapple creme, melon, toasty oak and baking spice with just a hint of crisp acidity…somewhat chardonnay-esque.

2009 Peju Chardonnay Persephone Vineyard, Napa Valley, CA, $30 (S) – Rating 89

A medium-bodied Chardonnay offering up a nose of apple pie and baking spices.  A fairly round mouth-feel with flavors of apple pie, baking spices, ripe red apple, roasted pineapple, lime, and tropicals with well-balanced  acidity.

2010 Mollydooker The Violinist Verdelho, Wine of Australia, $25 (S) – Rating 90

Verdelho is a white grape originally from Portugal that produces a crisp wine.  A satisfying nose of ripe pineapple. Crisp on the palate with a semi-round mouth-feel followed by well balanced flavors of pineapple, citrus, tropical and minerality with enough zippy acid to make it a good food pairing wine. It paired very well with our meal of boiled shrimp with 3 sauces.

2010 Lava Cap Chardonnay, El Dorado, CA, $18 (S) – Rating 91

Another delicious Chardonnay from Lava Cap. A rich nose of baked apple gives way on the palate to a round mouth-feel full of ripe red apple, ripe pineapple, died apricot, baking spices, Meyer lemon, and tropical flavors integrated with oaky vanilla and a light creme finish. Sit back and enjoy sip after sip.
