2010 Chatom Vineyards Chardonnay, Calaveras County, CA , $18 (S) – Rating 92

This sumptuous Chardonnay from Chatom Vineyards opens with a soft nose of baked apples. A round mouth-feel with flavors of ripe apple and pear that give way to flavors of apple pie, cinnamon, ripe citrus and tropical fruits with finishing notes of vanilla Crème Brûlée. 80% stainless steel fermentation creates nice acidity to balance the rich flavors.

A rich Pinot Noir with flavors of ripe dark cherry, blueberry with hints of toasty oak vanilla combined with soft tannins and subtle notes of minerality. The complexity shows the longer it opens in your glass. A very enjoyable wine from Stephan’s Cellar.

2009 Olema by Amici Cellars Chardonnay, Sonoma County, CA, $15 (S) – Rating 88

A leaner style of Chardonnay with 50% oak and 58% malolactic fermentation. Flavors of apple, pear and spice with hints of creme fresh and subtle notes of butterscotch and vanilla. A bit of zippy acidity adds to the food pairing ability.
